Position: Trailer Mechanic / Welder 4

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
  • Perform annual/systematic 90‑day and HM‑183 inspections on equipment as required.
  • Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
  • Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
  • Order and receive parts and supplies as needed.
  • Adhere to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards, including procedures for handling or disposing of hazardous waste.
  • Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
  • Use welding equipment (TIG).
  • Perform HM‑183 DOT inspections on tankers (P,V,I,K,L,HS,UC, EPA‑M27).

Required Skills / Abilities

  • At least 3–4 years of experience in repair and service of trailers, hazmat tankers, and medium‑duty trucks.
  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment theory, principles and repair for diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Minimum three years of tractor and trailer maintenance experience, DOT rules and regulations.
  • Ability to use vehicle diagnostic software.
  • Minimum three to four years as a fleet mechanic.
  • Minimum three to four years of DOT HM‑183 certification, training or experience; ASE certification not required but recommended.
  • Minimum three years operating welding equipment (TIG) and R‑stamp certification.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
