Functions as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities in the obstetrical services/maternal and newborn areas under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a medical provider. Assists nursing and medical staff with performance of procedures and tests. Assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and performs care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) insertion, Foley Catheter care and documentation of observations in the health record. Assists with the patient preparation and execution of obstetric and gynecological surgical procedures (e.g., cesarean deliveries, emergent hysterectomies, cerclage, and D&C) and circumcisions by anticipating surgeon needs, maintaining aseptic technique, and demonstrating knowledge of specialty instrumentation.2. Sets up sterile equipment, sterile field, and surgical tables, checks equipment functionality, ensures instrument integrity, and assists with room turnover and sterilization of the OR and Labor & Delivery environments. Assists in surgical count and breakdown of LDRs and Nursery treatment areas immediately after procedures are completed.3. Collects blood and urine specimens. Appropriately identifies, labels, and transports specimens. Cleans and disposes of surgical instruments, fluids, linens, trash, and other materials post-procedure.4. Assists patients with ADLs, personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition, toileting, positioning, and postmortem care under the supervision of nursing or medical staff.5. Measures and records vital signs, intake/output, height/weight, and other clinical data; performs point of care testing for glucose monitoring and assists with other bedside diagnostic procedures.6. Performs venipuncture, EKGs, specimen collection, Foley catheter and perineal care, simple wound care, and initiates CPR as needed. Applies oxygen equipment (e.g., nasal cannula and face mask) as directed by the registered nurse or medical provider.7. Supports the care team during vaginal births, prepares instruments and treatment areas, and maintains equipment such as fetal monitors and infant warmers.8.
