Job Title: Senior Accountant

Job Description

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in analyzing production costs, monitoring inventory levels, and partnering with cross-functional teams to optimize manufacturing processes. This position performs advanced and specialized accounting activities to ensure full compliance with relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements, while delivering accurate and insightful financial information to support strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the month-end close process by ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and support the preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis of production activities, including direct materials, labor, and overhead, to ensure accuracy and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Supervise and monitor inventory levels, track usage, and reconcile discrepancies to maintain accurate valuation and minimize waste or shortages.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present comprehensive reports on manufacturing costs, providing clear insights and recommendations to Senior leadership.
  • Ensure all cost accounting activities comply with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond promptly to audit requests with accurate, complete, and well-documented support for financial and cost accounting records.
  • Monitor and analyze cost variances, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrective actions to align actual results with budgeted targets.
  • Collaborate closely with production, procurement, finance, and other cross-functional teams to streamline processes and improve cost efficiency.
  • Apply advanced financial and cost accounting principles and best practices to complex business scenarios and analyses.
  • Leverage ERP systems to perform accounting and reporting functions, ensuring data integrity and consistency across systems.
  • Contribute to projects as a finance partner, providing analytical support, financial insights, and guidance on cost impacts and process improvements.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to analyze, model, and present financial and operational data in a clear and actionable format.
  • Navigate ambiguity and complexity by identifying key issues, developing structured analyses, and proposing practical solutions.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations effectively through clear written reports and presentations to stakeholders.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic or vocational qualification.
  • At least 5 years of previous experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform advanced accounting and cost analysis responsibilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial and cost accounting principles and best practices.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and apply advanced accounting knowledge and analytical skills to complex scenarios.
  • Intermediate ability to navigate and perform functions within ERP systems, with experience in QAD or Oracle Hyperion preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to function as an effective and respected finance partner.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, modeling, and presentation.
  • Ability to work effectively with ambiguity and complexity in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience in cost analysis and financial reporting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Combination of appropriate education, training, and directly related experience may be considered in place of a traditional degree path.
  • Experience preparing and presenting manufacturing cost reports to management.
  • Background in supervising or closely monitoring inventory levels and reconciliations.
  • Experience responding to audit requests and supporting internal and external audits.
  • Prior involvement in cross-functional initiatives to improve cost efficiency and streamline processes.
  • Comfort working within structured ERP environments and adapting to new financial systems.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across production, procurement, and finance teams.

Work Environment

This is a contingent position based in the United States, with a work schedule framework that may include any day from Sunday through Saturday, depending on business needs. The role operates within a manufacturing-focused finance environment that relies on ERP systems such as QAD or Oracle Hyperion and extensive use of Microsoft Excel for analysis and reporting.
