Venture Dynamics is seeking skilled Combo Welders to perform structural welding, fitting, and fabrication aboard Military Sealift Command and commercial vessels. The Combo Welder supports ship repair, modification, and steel renewal work through hands-on welding and fit-up of structural components. This role requires proficiency in both welding and fabrication to produce accurate structural assemblies in accordance with marine specifications.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural welding on hulls, decks, bulkheads, foundations, stiffeners, brackets, and shipboard structural assemblies
- Perform structural layout, fit-up, and fabrication using drawings, sketches, and applicable marine specifications
- Prepare and fit weld joints including beveling, grinding, alignment, and fit-up to required tolerances
- Burn, cut, heat, and wash steel using oxy-fuel or plasma equipment for fabrication, insert installation, and steel renewal
- Fabricate and install structural components including frames, collars, foundations, reinforcements, and inserts
- Follow approved drawings, weld symbols, procedures, and specifications to produce quality welds and fit-ups
- Support steel renewal, insert installation, and structural modification projects
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of ship repair experience as a structural welder/fabricator in a shipyard or marine industrial environment
- Proficiency in structural welding using SMAW and FCAW processes
- Strong proficiency with structural layout, fit-up, and fabrication
- Ability to weld in all positions on shipboard structural assemblies
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication sketches
- Firewatch trained, or ability to obtain firewatch training, per applicable marine/industrial hot work standards
- Ability to pass background screening and drug testing per customer requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain DBIDS credentials for base access
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working aboard MSC, Navy, or commercial vessels
- Current or prior structural welding certifications applicable to ship repair
- Experience with steel renewal, insert installation, and heavy structural fabrication
- OSHA 10 Maritime certification
Additional Information
Work is performed aboard vessels, in dry docks, and in industrial shipyard environments, including confined or elevated spaces and around active hot work operations. Exposure to heat, sparks, fumes, and industrial noise is expected. Respiratory protection may be required based on task or environmental conditions. PPE is required per site safety policies. Schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts depending on production requirements.
