Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Billing Assistant to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will manage the billing process for medical services, ensuring accurate coding, timely submission of claims, and effective follow-up on outstanding balances. Duties
- Review and verify medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy for billing purposes
- Assign appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) systems
- Prepare and submit insurance claims electronically through EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by communicating with insurance companies and patients to resolve discrepancies
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payments, adjustments, and collections
- Collaborate with medical office staff to ensure proper documentation of services rendered
- Assist in medical collections efforts by contacting patients regarding outstanding balances and payment plans
Qualifications
- Prior experience in medical billing or medical office administration is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG classifications, and medical terminology
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for billing and record management
- Understanding of insurance claim processes and medical collection procedures
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to accurately interpret medical records and documentation
- Effective communication skills for interacting with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare staff
- Knowledge of medical records management and compliance standards related to billing practices
