Medical Billing Assistant

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Billing Assistant to join our healthcare team. Duties

• Review and verify medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy for billing purposes
• Assign appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) systems
• Prepare and submit insurance claims electronically through EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by communicating with insurance companies and patients to resolve discrepancies
• Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payments, adjustments, and collections
• Collaborate with medical office staff to ensure proper documentation of services rendered
• Assist in medical collections efforts by contacting patients regarding outstanding balances and payment plans

Qualifications

• Prior experience in medical billing or medical office administration is highly preferred
• Strong knowledge of medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG classifications, and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for billing and record management
• Understanding of insurance claim processes and medical collection procedures
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to accurately interpret medical records and documentation
• Effective communication skills for interacting with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare staff
• Knowledge of medical records management and compliance standards related to billing practices
