Job Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU

We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU to join our neonatal healthcare team. The Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU is responsible for providing specialized respiratory care to critically ill and premature newborn infants within a neonatal intensive care setting. The Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, neonatal specialists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality respiratory treatment and life-support management for neonatal patients.

The Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU plays a critical role in assessing neonatal respiratory conditions, developing treatment strategies, administering respiratory therapies, and monitoring patient responses to treatment. The Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU is responsible for managing ventilators, oxygen therapy systems, airway support devices, and neonatal respiratory equipment to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

The Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU evaluates patient respiratory status, performs diagnostic procedures, assists during neonatal emergencies, and maintains accurate patient documentation. The Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU must demonstrate exceptional critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make rapid clinical decisions in high-acuity healthcare environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess neonatal patients experiencing respiratory distress or respiratory complications.
  • Administer respiratory treatments and therapies according to physician orders.
  • Operate and manage neonatal ventilators and respiratory support equipment.
  • Monitor oxygen therapy effectiveness and adjust treatment plans when necessary.
  • Perform neonatal respiratory diagnostic testing and evaluations.
  • Collaborate with physicians, neonatal nurses, and healthcare teams regarding patient care plans.
  • Monitor patient progress and communicate changes in respiratory condition.
  • Assist during neonatal emergency situations and rapid response interventions.
  • Maintain accurate respiratory treatment documentation and electronic medical records.
  • Educate family members regarding respiratory conditions and treatment plans.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention guidelines and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in neonatal patient rounds and interdisciplinary team discussions.
  • Maintain respiratory therapy equipment and verify operational readiness.
  • Support discharge planning and respiratory care education initiatives.
  • Participate in continuing education and clinical development opportunities.

Education:

  • Bachelors Respiratory Therapy

Certifications:

  • Respiratory Care Prof
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Reg Pulmonary Function Tech-Preferred or Adult Critical Care Specialist-Preferred or Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist-Preferred or Asthma Educator Specialist-Preferred
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 180 Days or ACLS - Instructor within 180 Days or ACLS - Provisional within 180 Days
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Prvdr-Preferred within 180 Days or NRP - Instructor-Preferred within 180 Days
  • Pediatric Adv Life Support within 180 Days or PALS - Instructor within 180 Days or PALS - Provisional within 180 Days

Experience:

  • Current advance credential with a minimum of two (2) years clinical experience to work in all critical care areas but not limited to Adult ICU, CVICU, BURN, NICU, Emergency Departments (Adult and Pediatric) as it relates each facility Required 100 credit hours towards a B.S. degree may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree
