Special Education Teacher - Resource Room

JOB SUMMARY:
Educate students by planning, developing, and delivering a course of study according to student learning objectives, district/building curriculum guidelines and student assessment data
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Implement the educational program, comprehensive relates services and accommodations and modifications as outlined in the students Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- Participate in the development and review of IEPs, including writing goals and objectives for identified needs using standardized and classroom based assessment data
- Monitor the implementation of IEPs, including school-wide implementation of modification/accommodations and progress toward goals and objectives
- Act as case manager for the IEP, partnering with parents and working closely with the building team
- Utilize para educators as part of a team by providing training, management, direction, and support
- Perform teaching responsibilities and accountability procedures as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Special Education Law
- Develop and implement effective lesson plans and instructional materials that allow students to utilize and practice higher level thinking skills
- Provide for large and small group and individualized instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in learning activities and instruct and monitor students in the use of such
- Observe and evaluate student's performance and development and provide appropriate feedback on work utilizing methods such as assigning and grading class work, homework, tests and assignments
- Continually assess student progress, and implement effective lessons to meet individual student learning needs as determined by student assessment data
- Provide opportunities for students to self reflect and track progress toward learning goals
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
- Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations
- Provide a safe, positive and effective environment that reflects and facilitates learning
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the policies and procedures of the school building and the district
- Work as an effective member of the grade level/course team to evaluate and improve student learning
- Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including communicating student progress in a timely and professional manner
- Self-reflect and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional performance to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and adjust accordingly to reach maximum effectiveness
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement/s as required by law and regulation, or ability to obtain said Washington State teaching certificate prior to first contracted day.

- Demonstrates ability to make data-driven instructional decisions
- Exhibits the ability to build a positive learning environment including modeling respect and honoring the dignity of all students, staff and parents
- Demonstrates effective classroom management procedures that provide for large and small groups, and individuals in an environment conducive to learning
- Demonstrates ability to develop rapport with students
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including communicating student progress
- Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with a team, contributing in a positive way
- Exhibits a commitment to on-going professional learning including demonstrating the ability to develop professionally in areas of the school and district focus
- Demonstrates knowledge and application of current technology with a multimedia approach to instruction and management of instruction
DESIRED CRITERIA :
