The Facilities Technician (Painter), under the supervision and direction of the Director of Facilities & Operations, is responsible for a wide range of facilities services tasks, including, but not limited to, non-technical maintenance of plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating, and/or air conditioning facilities and equipment, at a level not requiring formal licensure. May be required to perform tasks of other unlicensed trades, such as a light equipment operator, carpenter, painter, landscaper, and/or locksmith. The efforts of the Facilities Technician ensure that WCPA is operationally compliant and efficient in all aspects described. In addition, this individual is responsible for ensuring that this happens in such a way that it enables the rest of the school to focus almost exclusively on student achievement and culture.
Essential duties:
Painting, Surface, and Wood Finishing Maintenance:
Inspect and assess the condition of exterior and interior painted and finished surfaces, identifying areas with aging, peeling, damaged paint, or worn wood finishes
Prepare surfaces for painting and wood finishing by cleaning, sanding, scraping, patching, and priming as needed to ensure high-quality results
Apply paint, varnish, stains, sealers, polyurethane, or other protective finishes to walls, ceilings, doors, windows, cabinetry, trim, furniture, and other wood structures using brushes, rollers, or sprayers
Perform wood surface restoration and finishing on doors, cabinetry, trim, and other interior and exterior wood features to maintain appearance and durability
Select and mix appropriate paint colors, stains, and finishes to match existing schemes or meet school aesthetic standards
Maintain and restore historical or decorative elements of school buildings and grounds, ensuring preservation of original designs where applicable
Facilities Maintenance Support:
In partnership with the Facilities Director and Assistant Manager, perform ongoing preventative maintenance and repair work on facility mechanical, electrical, and other installed systems
Assist technicians with maintenance of all HVAC systems and associated equipment, electrical equipment, plumbing systems, building management systems, and building repairs as needed
Ensure the efficient and prompt handling of all department work orders and requests
Conduct regular inspections and ensure the upkeep and maintenance of all areas of campus
Review and understand equipment and methods of operation, fire/life safety, and other building systems
Perform general maintenance, custodial, landscaping, and trash removal tasks as needed.
Comply with all safety procedures and requirements
Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, and promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
Support after-hours building needs and activities as required
Attend training sessions and seminars
Support after-hours and weekend building needs
Other duties as assigned
High School Diploma and Certifications
2 - 4 years of related experience
Strong mechanical aptitude
Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SmartSheet
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Maintain detailed and accurate reports
Establish and maintain a good working relationship with WCPA personnel, contractors, and other partners
Possession of a valid California driver's license
Skills, Knowledge:
Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude and experience
High School Diploma and 2 years of related work experience
Must be team-oriented
Self-Motivation and flexibility of job assignments
A blend of technical and interpersonal skills, and continuous learning through training
Working Conditions:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., and to lift overhead and push/pull, move lighter objects
The ability to be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat
Physical requirements: Hearing and speaking to exchange information, and communicate over hand held radios; seeing to read, prepare, and understand cleaning labels/directions; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate maintenance equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store supplies; lifting objects; ability to go to sites apart from primary office to conduct business.
Work Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday
Flexible schedule: morning shift: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm & night shift: 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Pay Rate: $30.00/hour
