Are you a Dental Hygienist looking for an exceptional career opportunity? The U.S. Navy is launching a limited-time pilot program for Hospital Corpsmen specializing in Dental Hygiene (HM/DH). Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate preventive and therapeutic dental care under the supervision of a Navy Dental Officer.
  • Perform periodontal therapy such as scaling and root planing.
  • Take, process, and interpret dental radiographs.
  • Apply fluoride, sealants, and other preventive and therapeutic treatments.
  • Provide essential oral health and nutrition education to patients.
  • Document patient care and treatment outcomes accurately.
  • Maintain high standards of infection control and support clinical quality assurance protocols.

Work Environment

Serve in modern, fully equipped dental clinics and hospitals at Navy bases as well as potential assignments aboard aircraft carriers and hospital ships like the USNS Comfort and Mercy. Opportunities for operational and humanitarian deployments will arise as mission needs dictate.

Training & Advancement

The Navy supports your professional growth. Our pilot program is designed to reward your expertise from the start, with two entry pathways available:

  • Licensed Civilian Pathway: If you are a graduate of a CODA-accredited Dental Hygiene program and hold a state license, enlist directly at the E-6 paygrade.
  • Recent Graduate Pathway: Recent graduates of a CODA-accredited program not yet licensed may enlist at the E-4 paygrade.

Further specialized training will be available with the chance to compete for the advanced HM Dental Hygiene Program (NEC L35A).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited Dental Hygiene program.
  • Meet Navy medical, legal, and fitness standards, including vision correctable to 20/20.
  • Provide a recommendation from your program director and complete interviews with clinical supervisors.
