**Position Description & Qualifications**

Serco is looking for a Skilled Welder to join a high-profile and challenging project supporting the US Navy in Chesapeake, VA. The Skilled Welder will be on a dynamic team, supporting our C5ISR system installations. Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our military defense and safety of our Sailors.
Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques.
You will be part of a team that works closely with the customer and other Serco team members to deliver high technology performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations.
**In this role, you will:**
+ Weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors and generators, according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
+ Weld metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
+ Perform related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
+ Repair broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts.
+ Position and clamp together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
+ Locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch.
+ Perform repairs only.
+ Be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.
**To be successful in this role, you will have:**
+ A High School Diploma with a minimum of 4 years of related experience.
+ The ability to obtain gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
+ Complete successful qualification in the following Serco Welding Procedures within 30 days of starting with Serco for continued employment with Serco: Serco-001 (GMAW, Aluminum – 4 position), Serco-002 (SMAW, HY100-4 position), Serco-003 (GMAW, Aluminum – 4 position), Serco-007 (SMAW, C/S to S/S – 4 position), and Serco-012 (SMAW, S/S to S/S – 4 position).
+ Your own tools of the trade and able to pass pre-certification company weld test.
+ Respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift.
+ Familiarity with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
+ Be able to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
+ Have attention to safety, which is critical.
