Special Events Police Officers support the Cleveland State University campus by providing safety and security services during on‑campus events. Most events are hosted at the Wolstein Center, a premier multi‑purpose arena in downtown Cleveland that hosts basketball games, concerts, trade shows, and community celebrations. The CSU Police Department is a fully certified law enforcement agency focused on community policing, fostering strong relationships with the surrounding community to promote trust, transparency, and collaboration. Job Summary
Works at special events at CSU by independently performing duties of a certified peace officer using standard operating procedures of law enforcement for the safety and protection of CSU students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the general public. Provides special service or assistance as needed and performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Current OPOTA Peace Officer certification.
Currently employed full‑time with a qualifying law enforcement agency.
Current completion of required Field Training and Continued Professional Training through full‑time employment.
Three (3) years of continuous full‑time experience in law enforcement.
21 years of age or older and eligible for license to carry a firearm.
Valid driver’s license and ability to establish driver eligibility under Cleveland State University’s Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
Five (5) years of continuous full‑time experience in law enforcement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of a certified peace officer.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, analytical, and judgment skills.
Ability to work nights, weekends, or flexible hours.
Physical requirements: bending, stretching, reaching, or reacting quickly using arms, legs, or feet; lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy objects; standing for long periods.
