Bastrop County Emergency Services District #3 (BCESD#) is seeking a full‑time EMT, EMT‑Advanced or Paramedic Attendant. Bastrop County ESD #3 is a newly formed taxing entity created to support and enhance the provision of emergency medical services in Bastrop County to over 110,000 residents across approximately 900 square miles. Bastrop County is a rapidly growing suburban/rural county located just east of Austin/Travis County Texas.

The Attendant Medic is responsible for the safe operation of the ambulance and provides operational and clinical support during assigned shifts. The Attendant performs a wide variety of tasks and functions, applying professional skills and knowledge in the emergency response, scene assessment, patient assessment and works closely with area first responders.

Essential Functions

The following duties are intended to serve as a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities of the position. The incumbent may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional duties not included in this description.

  • Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide medical assistance at the scene.
  • Adhere to, promote, and educate others about safety and infection control policies.
  • Assess patient condition and determine appropriate treatment.
  • Administer emergency medical care including CPR, defibrillation, wound care, and medication.
  • Safely transport patients to medical facilities while monitoring clinical condition.
  • Communicate professionally, effectively, and respectfully with dispatch, hospital staff, and other emergency personnel.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient care reports and documentation.
  • Serve as the primary driver of the apparatus.
  • Inspect and record apparatus condition in accordance with vehicle safety guidelines.
  • Perform station duties in accordance with operating procedures.
  • Inspect and maintain ambulance equipment and supplies.
  • Always be clean and professional in uniform while on‑duty.
  • Advocate for patients in need of assistance.
  • Create as safe an environment as possible for patients, responders, and bystanders.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations and protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

  • EMT, EMT‑Advanced, or Paramedic certification.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class C State of Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain.
  • At least one year of experience in EMS or patient care delivery in an emergency department or specialty care facility.
  • At least one year experience operating an emergency vehicle.
  • Must be able to complete Bastrop ESD #3 provisional credentialing within 2 weeks of employment and full clinical credentialing within 3 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous specialty operations, emergency management deployment or tactical medical programs experience.
  • Nationally recognized cardiac, trauma, pediatric or medical‑life support certification, or equivalent local credential.
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.

Proficiency

  • Business English, spelling, punctuation and mathematics.
  • Ability to supervise and coach personnel and work effectively in a team.
  • Medical recordkeeping and preparation of reports.
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Ability to operate radio communications equipment.
  • Ability to operate highly technical medical equipment.
  • Adherence to policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic and advanced emergency medical services treatments and skills.
  • Knowledge of emergency vehicle operation.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment operation, general maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Knowledge of EMS safety and infection control practices.
  • Knowledge of scene and multi‑casualty management.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow clinical guidelines.
  • Ability to work well with others and maintain a positive leadership attitude.
  • Ability to maintain timely attendance and work extended hours when required.
  • Ability to manage complex medical situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse socio‑economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to assess situations and determine priorities with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person, via radio, video, or messaging tools.
  • Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the English language fluently. Strong skills in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure are essential for accurate and effective medical documentation.
