Job Description:

As a core part of your responsibilities, you will manage all employees in efficiently planning and executing all store processes, which include ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, select, and retain suitable employees following federal and state labor laws and company policies to ensure the store is properly staffed.
  • Provide adequate training to employees, conduct performance evaluations, identify gaps, and provide apt solutions/counseling up to and including termination.
  • Make recommendations regarding employee pay and advancements.
  • Conduct meetings, coordinate events to encourage safety, security, and policy adherence.
  • Ensure the store is appropriately staffed and efficiently opened and closed each day.
  • Analyze operating statements to identify business trends and potential errors.
  • Order to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plan and inventory management.
  • Facilitate efficient staging, stocking, and storing of merchandise in line with defined company work processes.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels while controlling damages, markdowns, and implementing facility controls.
  • Uphold the financial integrity of the store through strict procedures and cash control.
  • Lead in providing superior customer service.
  • Ensure the store is well equipped with essential tools to perform required tasks.
  • Adhere strictly to company policies and procedures; ensure employee compliance.
  • Complete all documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices.
  • Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to solve problems in situations where standardization is limited.
  • Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred at certain store locations.

Work Experience and/or Education:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
  • At least one year of management experience in a retail environment is preferred.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Frequently walking and standing.
  • Regularly bending, stooping, and kneeling to manage the check out station, stock merchandise, and unload trucks.
  • Handling of merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanner, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, and U-boats (six-wheel carts).
  • Lifting up to 40 pounds regularly; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.
  • Regular use of ladders.
  • Providing own transportation for bank deposits, management meetings, and visits to other Dollar General stores.
  • Fast-paced environment; moderate noise level.
  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
