Job Description:

narb is hiring an External Manufacturing Project Engineer to support a pharmaceutical supplier packaging operation in Allentown, PA. The supplier receives product manufactured elsewhere and handles final packaging activities, including bottling, blister packaging, labeling, and related production documentation.

This role supports external manufacturing activity at the supplier site. You will work with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and supplier teams to monitor production execution, document packaging-line performance, and escalate issues when production does not run as planned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As an External Manufacturing Project Engineer, you will serve as the onsite technical representative during scheduled packaging runs. This is an associate-level, part-time contract role with an expected workload of approximately 20 hours per week.

The role requires onsite support at least 2 to 3 days per week based on the supplier production schedule. You must also be available on call for urgent production updates, schedule changes, packaging-line issues, and time-sensitive supplier support needs.

This role is ideal for someone who already lives near Allentown, PA or within a practical commute. Training will be provided on the supplier process, packaging operation, documentation expectations, reporting format, and escalation process.

In this role, you will:

  • Monitor supplier packaging operations during scheduled production runs.
  • Serve as the onsite technical representative during production activity and support production activity expected approximately twice per week.
  • Observe packaging-line performance and document daily production status.
  • Track production output, rejected units, start times, stop times, downtime, and reasons for interruptions.
  • Communicate supplier performance updates to internal engineering, quality, and operations teams.
  • Serve as the on-site technical point of contact during production activity.
  • Work with supplier personnel to understand packaging-line flow, process constraints, and production requirements.
  • Use Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office to organize production data, prepare reports, and maintain records.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required technical proficiencies:

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work onsite at the supplier facility at least 2 to 3 days per week.
  • Availability for on call support when urgent production or supplier issues arise.
  • Ability to work a part-time schedule of approximately 20 hours per week.
  • Reliable commute to the Allentown, PA supplier site.
  • Technical aptitude and interest in manufacturing, packaging, or engineering operations.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to document production activity accurately and objectively.
  • Strong communication skills with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and supplier teams.
  • Willingness to complete training on pharmaceutical packaging processes and supplier reporting requirements.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, food, chemical, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with packaging operations, production support, supplier operations, or project engineering.
  • Knowledge of GMP or regulated documentation practices.
  • Experience documenting downtime, deviations, production issues, or process observations.
  • Familiarity with supplier operations or external manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to review production information and identify recurring operational issues.
  • Comfort working near active manufacturing or packaging lines.
  • Interest in future exposure to drug manufacturing, supplier engineering, quality, or technical operations.

TRAINING AND ONBOARDING

  • Training will be provided.
  • The selected person will learn the supplier’s packaging process, production schedule, reporting format, site expectations, documentation standards, and escalation process.
  • Prior pharmaceutical packaging experience is preferred, but not required for a technically inclined candidate with strong Excel, Microsoft Office, and reporting skills.

EXPECTED COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE

Pay Transparency: The following details are for Pennsylvania individuals only.

Pennsylvania Hourly Rate: $50/Hr USD

Work location: Allentown, PA

Work arrangement: onsite at least 2 to 3 days per week

On call requirement: required for urgent production updates, schedule changes, packaging-line issues, and supplier support needs
