Truck Driver – Heavy (CDL) – U.S. Army Equipment Turn-In Site (Contractor)
The Truck Driver – Heavy operates commercial and military-style heavy vehicles to transport Army equipment, materiel, and supplies in support of turn-in site operations. This role requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and adherence to U.S. Army, DOT, OSHA, and contract requirements for the safe and efficient movement of government property. The driver supports inbound and outbound movements, mass turn-ins, and local/line-haul operations, ensuring equipment is delivered, staged, and documented properly.
Responsibilities
- Transportation & Driving Duties:
- Operate heavy trucks, tractor-trailers, and flatbeds to transport vehicles, equipment, and Class IX materiel.
- Support equipment turn-in operations by hauling assets from Army units to the site or designated locations.
- Assist with loading, securing, and unloading cargo using chains, binders, straps, and blocking/bracing.
- Conduct local and long-haul missions in compliance with Army movement requirements and DTR 4500.9-R.
- Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance:
- Perform Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) before, during, and after operations.
- Report deficiencies and coordinate repairs in accordance with Army and company maintenance procedures.
- Maintain driver logs, trip tickets, fuel records, and inspection sheets.
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Ensure proper completion of shipping and transport documents (DD Form 1348-1A, DD Form 626, DD Form 836, TCMDs, bills of lading).
- Comply with DOT regulations, Army safety standards, and HAZMAT transport rules.
- Update Army logistics/transportation systems (TC-AIMS II, GCSS-Army) when required.
- Safety & Security:
- Adhere to OSHA, Army, and company safety procedures during operations.
- Ensure proper load securement and weight distribution before movement.
- Safeguard government property and report accidents, incidents, or discrepancies immediately.
- Support to Site Operations:
- Assist warehouse and supply teams with staging and positioning of vehicles/equipment.
- Support mass turn-in events by coordinating scheduled pick-ups and deliveries.
- Provide transportation updates to the Transportation Coordinator and Site Manager.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Licensing:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL – Class A or B as required).
- Army OF 346 military driver’s license preferred (may be obtained on-site).
- HAZMAT endorsement (preferred/required if hauling hazardous materials).
- 3–5 years of heavy truck driving experience; prior Army or contractor logistics experience preferred.
- Familiarity with military or government cargo movement highly desirable.
- DOT/FMCSA safety regulations.
- Army transportation regulations: AR 55-355, AR 710-2, DTR 4500.9-R.
- Army forms and documentation requirements for vehicle/equipment movement.
- Ability to operate heavy trucks, tractor-trailers, and MHE safely.
- Strong attention to detail for load securement and documentation.
- Good communication skills for coordination with Army units and site staff.
- Ability to work in high-tempo environments with shifting priorities.
- A REAL ID will be required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform routine standing, walking, bending, and reaching tasks in warehouse and field environments. Must meet all physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties, including working in extreme heat or cold, high or low humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, heights, and other inclement weather conditions. This position involves working both indoors and outdoors, periodic overtime, and exposure to heat, dust, cold, and adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to attain a Common Access Card (CAC).
- Must be willing to travel for 90 continuous days, up to 110 days with an extension.
- Must be willing to work a schedule that is 90 days travel and 90 days home continuous throughout employment.
- Employee must possess a valid passport or be able to acquire a passport within 120 days of employment
- Must have a valid Colorado driver's license with proof of vehicle insurance.
- 75% travel is required.
