Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Black Iron Ductwork Welder to fabricate, assemble, and weld black iron duct systems used in commercial and industrial HVAC installations. The ideal candidate will have experience reading blueprints, performing high-quality welds, and working safely in accordance with OSHA regulations, New York State requirements, and applicable industry standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, fit, tack, and weld black iron ductwork and related HVAC components.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), or FCAW welding as required by project specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and welding symbols.
  • Measure, cut, grind, bevel, and prepare materials for welding and assembly.
  • Install and repair black iron duct systems in commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Inspect completed welds for structural integrity, appearance, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Safely operate welding machines, torches, grinders, plasma cutters, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Maintain welding equipment and perform routine preventive maintenance.
  • Follow all OSHA safety regulations, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, confined space procedures (when applicable), and fire prevention practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, foremen, HVAC mechanics, and other trades to complete projects on schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience welding black iron ductwork, structural steel, or HVAC fabrication (or equivalent apprenticeship training).
  • Ability to read construction drawings and welding symbols.
  • Proficiency using welding and metal fabrication equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and elevated work platforms.
  • Reliable transportation to various job sites.
  • Ability to work overtime, evenings, or weekends as project needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS welding certification.
  • OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
  • Experience with commercial HVAC duct fabrication and installation.
  • Experience using plasma cutting and oxy-fuel cutting equipment.
  • Forklift, scissor lift, or boom lift certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Stand, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions using hand and power tools.

Safety Requirements

Employees must:

  • Follow all OSHA Construction Safety Standards and company safety policies.
  • Wear required PPE, including welding helmet, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, respirator (when required), flame-resistant clothing, and steel-toe boots.
  • Participate in required safety meetings and training.
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately.

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
