This recruitment is being conducted to fill vacancies with the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Airports Division.

Overview

The Airport Firefighter Recruit II is an entry‑level position in the State of Hawaii Airport Firefighter series. The incumbent will undergo a 26‑week training program and thereafter be deployed to a designated airport location. The role requires rotating shift work, including evenings, weekends and holidays, and participation in airport rescue firefighter training.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in intensive classroom and field training in aircraft and structural firefighting and rescue.
  • Assist in airport firefighting and emergency operations, including emergency medical care.
  • Perform airport firefighting and related tasks as directed and supervised.
  • Maintain readiness by completing the required Physical Ability Test (PAT).

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED certificate (or one year of work experience demonstrating reading, comprehension, following instruction, and writing).
  • Valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii.
  • Current certification in Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED), including issue and expiration dates.
  • Firefighter I Certification issued by IFSAC or Pro Board.
  • Firefighter II Certification issued by IFSAC or Pro Board.
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness Certification issued by IFSAC or Pro Board.
  • Hazardous Materials Operations Certification issued by IFSAC or Pro Board.
  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, National Registry Paramedic or Emergency Medical Responder certification, with registry, expiration and provider level information.
  • Successful completion of a Physical Ability Test (PAT) conducted on the Island of Oahu.

Selection Process

The process consists of Minimum Qualification review, Physical Ability Test (PAT) and interview. Candidates must compete and qualify on all phases to become an Airport Firefighter Recruit.
