Job Description Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for participating in patient assessments and providing care, education, and instruction to patients through symptom-based telephone and in-person triage. The RN ensures patients are educated and properly scheduled for care, follows protocols for patient treatment, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to meet health service objectives. This position requires adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and all licensing and accreditation standards, while representing the organization’s mission in all actions and communications.

This is a full time, benefit eligible position typically working Monday - Friday 8am-5pm onsite at our Heart of the City Health Center with our Pediatric clinic. Occasional Saturday mornings and travel to other Cherry Health sites may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete patient assessments, provide education, and schedule appointments both telephonically and in person.
  • Use knowledge and approved protocols to advise patients and parents on care plans.
  • Conduct one-on-one or family patient education sessions.
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up call-backs are made for patients.
  • Assist in coordinating services for patients and families with other health-related agencies and resources.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary planning to meet patient needs and health service objectives.
  • Document nursing actions in medical records using defined standards.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Participate in the quality assurance program.
  • Provide translation services when needed.
  • Adhere to CSHS compliance standards as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Stay updated on pertinent federal, state, and CSHS regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Ensure that staff members are trained and evaluated on compliance policies specific to their roles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the State of Michigan.

Experience

One year of professional clinical nursing experience required. Family practice experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

  • Basic Life Support/CPR certification as required by license and certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining self-direction.
  • Working knowledge of computers and their applications preferred.
  • Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines and high-volume conditions.

Physical Requirements

  • Possible exposure to patients with illnesses and infections.
  • Frequent telephone and computer use, requiring manual dexterity for writing and computer operation.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Vision requirements may include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May require bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
