In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur. State Troopers are committed to protecting North Carolina's motoring public.**Description of Work**This is law enforcement work performed at North Carolina state building and grounds. Employees investigate and enforce a variety of criminal and traffic cases, including crimes against persons and property and motor vehicle violations. Work involves enforcing state laws and regulations within jurisdictional boundaries and responding to calls for assistance in the state government complex. Investigates criminal offenses involving state property, state employees, or visitors to state property. Interviews persons to obtain information pertaining to crime scene. Checks buildings during non-working hours and at night to ensure security of property and equipment. Completes investigative reports pertaining to criminal acts reported in or around state buildings and property, and interviews victims and witnesses. May arrest suspects in connection with crimes or violations of law. May testify in court as needed. \*Applicants hired prior to completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training and NC Probationary Law Enforcement Certification will be limited to recruit assignments until the training and certification are both complete. Respond to calls for service including fire alarms, intrusion alarms, bomb threats or need for emergency medical services from State Capitol Police Communications Center and reports to incident scenes.**Provides information and assistance to visitors and/or motorists.* Order state employees to clear buildings when advised of fire or bomb threats to safeguard life of employees/visitors.* Enforce state laws and regulations within jurisdictional boundaries and respond to calls for assistance in the state government complex.* Direct and reroute traffic around fire and other disturbances.* Testify in court to assist in resolution of cases involving traffic cases or crimes against the State and state employees/visitors while on duty.* Check buildings during non-working hours and at night to ensure security of property and equipment.**If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
