Position Summary

The Van Driver plays a key role in supporting MHA’s GRIT Program, a co-occurring substance use and mental health recovery program. The driver is responsible for safely transporting program participants, regularly assessing transportation routes for efficiency, and ensuring the vehicle is well-maintained and compliant with safety standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates reliability, compassion, and a commitment to MHA’s mission of empowering individuals across all areas of life.

Pay Rate: $18.50 - $19.50 an hour

Open Shift: Monday through Friday 8am-2pm (30hrs)

Key Responsibilities

Transport participants to and from appointments, meetings, and activities as scheduled.

Assess and recommend improvements to transportation routes for efficiency.

Maintain cleanliness and conduct regular inspections of the van to ensure safety and operability.

Communicate any vehicle maintenance needs to the Program Director.

Ensure adherence to all safety and agency policies while operating the vehicle.

Build positive rapport with program participants while maintaining professional boundaries.

Collaborate with staff to ensure timely transportation scheduling.

Maintain accurate trip logs and documentation as required.

Respond calmly and appropriately to unexpected changes or emergencies during transport.

Represent MHA’s values of Respect, Integrity, and Compassion during all duties.

About the GRIT Program

The GRIT program at MHA provides residential rehabilitation for individuals with substance use challenges and co-occurring mental health conditions. Residents participate in individualized counseling, recovery-focused programming, and community activities such as education, job training, or employment, all within a structured and supportive environment. With locations in Springfield (men’s programs) and Holyoke (LGBTQIA+ program), GRIT combines the comforts of home with access to vital resources. A skilled, multidisciplinary team works closely with each resident to support recovery, personal growth, and long-term stability, while creating personalized aftercare plans for a successful return to the community.
