Job Overview
We are seeking a Chess teacher for our afterschool program! This position offers the chance to combine your passion for teaching chess with the opportunity to work with elementary to middle school students. We are looking for individuals who are engaging and can foster critical thinking, strategic skills, and a love for chess among students.
Part Time Working Hours: Monday and Tuesday at 3:30 to 5:00pm
Exact hours and days will depend on class enrollment.
Schedule
Must be available to commit for the full 2026-2027 school year
Students are grouped according to their age/grade level band
Sessions are one-hour long
Responsibilities
Lead afterschool chess class with groups of up to 14 students for Kindergarten - 8th Grade - students are grouped according to their age
Actively engage and motivate students during chess lessons
Effectively manage the classroom and address students’ behavior issues in a positive, professional manner
Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students
Communicate effectively with afterschool management regarding student and program-related matters
Maintain and promote student organization of chess materials and supplies
Organize competitions for students to participate in the NYC area
