Job Summary

We are seeking a technically strong, operationally driven Staff Accountant IV to oversee the financial mechanics and day-to-day servicing workflows within a fast-paced MGA/Wholesale insurance environment. This role combines technical accounting expertise with hands-on operational ownership, requiring advanced Excel skills and direct management of accounts payable and premium flow processes. The ideal candidate will drive accuracy, efficiency, and consistency across financial operations while helping establish and enforce structured workflows, procedures, and servicing standards throughout the organization.

Looking for Accounting Supervisor that has a strong understanding of how MGA business works, we need someone who is naturally inquisitive and motivated to make our processes more efficient. This is not a traditional accountant sitting in a back-office function. This role requires someone that understands how money moves through an insurance ecosystem.

This role is an Individual Contributor role that will be supporting our Accounting Lead and not managing a team.

Responsibilities:

Perform full cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable in a timely manner ensuring accuracy by review of work.

Perform general ledger accounting functions, including journal entry process review and account reconciliation.

Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules

Review financial statements for accuracy and compliance

Assist with the preparation and filing of tax returns

Prepare documentation to be used internally or by auditors in preparation of comprehensive financial statements.

Complete special projects and financial analyses as assigned

Technical Financial Ownership:

Execute and manage accounts payable + premium accounting workflows

Understand and track payment flows: Agency bill and Direct bill (e.g., workers comp)

Ensure accuracy across high-volume transactions

Reconcile financial data across systems

Servicing Operational Support:

Handle day-to-day financial servicing questions, such as: Payment status, Transaction tracking, Issue resolution, and Cancellations

Act as a bridge between accounting, operations, and business teams

Take ownership of high-volume inbound workflows

Process Improvement Automation Mindset:

Identify inefficiencies in manual workflows

Support automation improvements and continuously look for ways to: Reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and Increase speed

Complete special projects and financial analyses as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, preferred

5-7 years of accounting experience

2 years of supervisory experience in accounting or finance

Demonstrated oral and written communication skills

Ability to communicate effectively with team members, lead projects and provide solid customer service to clients

Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and work independently

Highly organized with a strong attention to detail

Daily use of Excel for financial tracking and analysis, VLOOKUPs / XLOOKUPs, Data reconciliation and managing large datasets. Ability to manipulate and validate financial data quickly and accurately

Preferred backgrounds: Insurance (MGA, wholesale, broker) or high-volume transactional insurance environments

This role requires onsite attendance at our Carlsbad, CA office. We can discuss potential hybrid work.

The starting hourly pay scale for this position is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on factors such as skills, qualifications, training, and experience. In addition, the company offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) plan with match, paid time off, and other benefits.
