Position Overview

This role sits within Internal Manufacturing Quality for Fuel Systems, with a focus on machining processes. The Quality Engineer leads and supports investigations into quality issues such as scrap, rework, and customer complaints, developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions using tools like 8D, fishbone diagrams, and FMEA. The role also uses data and risk analysis to guide process monitoring and continuous improvement efforts, collaborating closely with a cross-functional Small Business Team (manufacturing engineers and operations) to improve process capability and reduce variation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support investigations into quality issues (scrap, rework, customer complaints), developing and implementing corrective and preventive actions using quality tools such as 8D, fishbone analysis, and FMEA.
  • Use data and risk analysis to direct process monitoring and continuous improvement actions.
  • Collaborate with the Small Business Team (manufacturing engineers, operations) to improve process capability and reduce variation.
  • Analyze quality data, including defect rates, process capability, and SPC charts.
  • Prepare reports for management and cross-functional teams and track KPIs such as First Pass Yield and internal/external PPM.
  • Train operators on quality standards and inspection techniques.
  • Support cross-functional teams with quality-related expertise.

Team Structure & Interaction

  • Quality Engineers are peers organized under the Quality Manager.
  • Each Quality Engineer is assigned to a specific cost center and serves as part of that cost center's Small Business Team (SBT), a cross-functional team focused on addressing issues and maintaining operations.
  • Attends regularly scheduled meetings, including check-ins with peers and direct management at the start of shift.
  • Interacts daily with employees in the assigned section, including operators, team leads, and the section manager.
  • Meets with cross-functional teams to address issues as they arise, in close collaboration with the Small Business Team.

Work Environment

  • Union factory environment; PPE required, including ear protection, eye protection, and safety-toe shoes.
  • Office environment by desk/cubicle, with conference calls and meetings typical of an office setting.
