JOB OVERVIEW

Holy Family is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Building Substitute Teacher to support the school's mission of providing quality education to its students. As a Building Substitute Teacher, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment in the absence of regular classroom teachers. This role requires flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for fostering the academic and social development of young learners.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Classroom Management: Effectively manage and maintain a positive and productive classroom environment in accordance with the school's policies and procedures.

Lesson Delivery: Implement lesson plans provided by absent teachers, ensuring the continuity of instruction and adhering to the established curriculum.

Student Supervision: Monitor and supervise students to ensure their safety, well-being, and engagement in learning activities.

Instructional Support: Provide assistance to students in understanding and completing assigned tasks, answering questions, and facilitating discussions as needed.

Classroom Support: Assist with classroom setup, including organizing materials, preparing instructional aids, and maintaining a tidy and functional learning environment.

Behavior Management: Employ appropriate behavior management strategies to address disruptive behavior and promote a positive and respectful classroom climate.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate attendance records, report any concerns or incidents to the appropriate school personnel, and complete required documentation.

Collaboration: Collaborate with other teachers and staff to promote a cohesive educational environment and ensure a smooth transition for students when regular teachers are absent.

Professional Development: Stay updated on educational best practices, attend professional development sessions, and engage in ongoing learning to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

Building Relationships: Establish positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, fostering open communication and a supportive school community.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in education or a related field

PEL and Illinois State Teaching Certificate (preferred)

Minimum of 3 years teaching experience working with elementary school-aged children, preferably in a teaching or substitute teaching capacity.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff members.

Adaptability and flexibility to adjust to different grade levels, subject matters, and classroom environments.

Knowledge of elementary school curriculum, instructional strategies, and classroom management techniques.

Ability to follow lesson plans and maintain a structured learning environment.

Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in the well-being and success of young learners.

Organizational skills and attention to detail to handle administrative tasks and maintain accurate records.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Compliance with all school policies and regulations, including passing necessary background checks.
