Position details: Proposed Start Date: 07/01/2026 | Classification Title: Custodian – Temporary Housekeeper | Department: University Place Hotel | FTE: 0.75 – 1.0 | End Date: 12/31/2026.

Position Summary

University Place Hotel and Conference Center (UPL) is seeking two part‑time temporary custodians/housekeepers to join the housekeeping department. Responsibilities include providing a full range of cleaning duties for guest rooms, public areas, linen rooms, lobby, conference rooms, and offices. Candidates should be able to work independently, provide friendly and professional service, and adhere to health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning duties for guest rooms and public areas, including linen rooms, lobby, conference rooms, and offices.
  • Assist other staff and guests as needed while maintaining a hospitable atmosphere.
  • Follow trained procedures and safety regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Ability to work alone and follow trained procedures and standards.
  • Ability to remain on feet, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, lift, push, and pull throughout shift.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to take direction and be flexible to change tasks/multi‑task.
  • Attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of custodial and/or housekeeping experience in a hotel, hospitality, or travel industry.
  • Previous customer service experience.

Special Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Physical work constitutes a primary portion (>70%) of duties.

Environmental Factors: Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors, and loud noises.

Hazards and Safety: Potential exposure to cleaning chemicals, biohazards, and other substances. PPE is required.

Scheduling: Flexible scheduling, including day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Work Hours

Sunday to Saturday, 30–40 hours per week (schedule varies).

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly rate: $18.06 – $19.36, depending on qualifications and experience. This temporary position is not eligible for benefits.
