Facilities & Utilities Maintenance Technician (GMP Environment)
Location: North Carolina (NC)
Duration: 6 Months (Possible Extension)
Shift: 2nd Shift (3:30 PM – 11:30 PM)
Job Summary
We are seeking a Facilities & Utilities Maintenance Technician to support maintenance activities for facility equipment and utility systems in a GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have experience maintaining building systems and production support utilities while ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operations. This position requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out scheduled maintenance and equipment repairs to keep facility systems operating efficiently.
- Inspect utility equipment regularly and identify potential issues before they impact production.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and perform necessary repairs on facility equipment.
- Support the operation of utility systems such as HVAC, boilers, compressed air, Water for Injection (WFI), and clean utilities.
- Install or replace equipment components as needed to improve system performance.
- Record maintenance activities, equipment history, and completed work in the CMMS system.
- Work closely with production, engineering, and contractors to resolve equipment-related issues.
- Monitor building systems to ensure utilities are operating within required parameters.
- Follow company safety procedures, GMP guidelines, and maintenance best practices during all work activities.
- Assist during equipment shutdowns, start-ups, and emergency maintenance situations.
- Participate in the on-call maintenance schedule when required.
Required Qualifications
- Experience performing facilities or utilities maintenance in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other GMP-regulated manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on knowledge of HVAC systems and facility equipment maintenance.
- Experience working with critical utilities, including:
- Water for Injection (WFI)
- Compressed Air (CCA)
- Boilers and Steam Systems
- USP/Clean Utilities
- Ability to read and understand Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and equipment repairs.
- Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Understanding of cGMP requirements and OSHA safety standards.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting Fill-Finish, sterile, or aseptic manufacturing operations.
- Familiarity with JCI Metasys or similar Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Experience supporting formulation manufacturing utilities.
- Availability to work the assigned second shift and participate in an on-call rotation.
