Summary

This EMT will work a full‑time rotating schedule, transporting patients between UNCMC, Hillsborough Hospital, UNC Chatham, and supporting Pediatrics/Neonatal team transports. The role requires 1 year of paid EMT transport experience.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with crew and emergency personnel via UHF/VHF radios, pagers, and cellular phones, and use the ground operator's communication book daily.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, ensure adequate fuel, conduct daily vehicle checks, and maintain ambulance cleanliness.
  • Complete logs, checklists, and reports related to activities, vehicle status, and maintenance; participate in shift‑change debriefings.
  • Ensure equipment is mission‑ready, identifying and arranging repairs for malfunctioning equipment.
  • Maintain awareness of road conditions and share updates with co‑workers.
  • Serve as lead worker or take on specialized equipment maintenance responsibilities as needed.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and programs, including Quality Improvement, Marketing and Outreach, and Safety.
  • Transport medical crew and patients in emergency vehicles, complying with North Carolina State Law, UNC Air Care policies, and manufacturer specifications.

Education Requirements

None required beyond other position qualifications.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification
  • Valid NC Driver's license
  • BLS Certification

Professional Experience

One (1) year of EMT experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, with 1 year of paid EMT transport experience required.

Salary Range

$19.78 – $28.12 per hour (Hiring Range)
