On-Call Substitute Teacher
Position Summary
The On-Call Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instructional continuity in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This position supports the educational mission of Columbus Preparatory Academy by maintaining a safe, positive, and academically focused learning environment while implementing lesson plans and classroom procedures. Substitute teachers are expected to uphold the Academy's high standards of professionalism, student conduct, and academic excellence while ensuring learning continues with minimal disruption.
This position is an on call position, you will be contacted as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•
Report to the Academy at the assigned time and check in with the Main Office upon arrival.
•
Receive classroom assignments, lesson plans, attendance materials, classroom keys, and any additional instructions necessary to successfully fulfill the assignment.
•
Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher or school administration.
•
Maintain a structured, respectful, and productive classroom environment consistent with Columbus Preparatory Academy's expectations and student code of conduct.
•
Supervise students throughout the school day to ensure their safety, well-being, and appropriate behavior.
•
Accurately record student attendance and complete all required documentation.
•
Assign and monitor classwork, independent work, and homework as directed by the classroom teacher.
•
Communicate professionally with students, staff, and administration throughout the school day.
•
Leave the classroom in an organized condition and provide a written summary of the day's activities, including student behavior, instructional progress, and any concerns requiring administrative follow-up.
•
Follow all Columbus Preparatory Academy policies, procedures, safety protocols, and confidentiality requirements.
•
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or school administration to support the successful operation of the Academy.

Qualifications
•
High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
•
Valid Ohio Substitute Teaching License or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
•
Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and engage students in a classroom setting.
•
Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
•
Ability to adapt to varying grade levels, subject areas, and classroom environments.
•
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
