Position Summary

We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Product Liability Investigator to investigate defective products, manage and preserve evidence, and assist attorneys in complex civil litigation. In this role, you will work directly in the field and collaborate closely with attorneys, case staff, and outside experts to build strong, well-documented cases on behalf of injured clients. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable with significant travel, and brings sharp analytical instincts and a genuine commitment to justice.

Key Responsibilities:

Case Evaluation Investigation

Investigate defective products and assist attorneys in building complex civil litigation cases

Quickly evaluate case details to identify potential at-fault parties and determine case viability

Research ownership, management, and corporate structure of defendant parties using public and proprietary databases

Assess the need for independent field investigation and coordinate with third-party investigation firms as appropriate

Conduct social media and open-source intelligence (OSINT) research to support case development

Evidence Management

Secure, catalog, and maintain physical evidence — including malfunctioning machinery, defective consumer goods, and faulty auto parts — ensuring chain-of-custody integrity throughout the litigation process

Photograph, document, and store evidence in accordance with firm protocols and legal standards

Coordinate logistics for evidence transport, storage, and expert access

Research Case Development

Conduct comprehensive research on manufacturers, distributors, and retailers involved in defective product cases

Track safety recalls, regulatory filings, and prior lawsuits to identify and establish patterns of negligence

Prepare detailed investigative reports and case development summaries for attorney review

Witness Expert Coordination

Interview victims and witnesses to gather firsthand accounts and support causation analysis

Coordinate with scientific, medical, and economic experts to evaluate causation and damages

Schedule and facilitate expert site visits, product inspections, and depositions as needed

Documentation Case Management

Draft precise case-opening documents and maintain accurate, up-to-date case files

Track deadlines and maintain case statuses across a high-volume caseload

Enter and manage case data within the firm’s case management system

Collaboration Communication

Communicate findings clearly to attorneys and case managers, adapting communication style to the audience

Guide clients through highly emotional situations with empathy, professionalism, and clarity

Coordinate with external investigation vendors and court reporters

Provide regular status updates and flag issues requiring attorney attention in a timely manner

Qualifications:

Required

Associate degree or equivalent work experience in investigations, paralegal studies, criminal justice, or a related field

Investigation Experience: Prior background in law enforcement, criminal investigations, insurance adjusting, or legal investigation strongly preferred

Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to guide clients through highly emotional situations and communicate findings clearly to attorneys and case managers

Superior written and verbal communication skills

Highly organized with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously

Outstanding attention to detail and strong critical thinking ability

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; typing speed of at least 40 WPM

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment

Comfortable navigating legal and corporate databases

Preferred

Prior experience as an investigator, case manager, or legal assistant in a plaintiffs’ or personal injury law firm

Knowledge of employment labor laws, wage and hour regulations, or personal injury case types

Experience with legal case management software (e.g., Litify, Salesforce, or similar)
