**Company:** WSP
**Locations:** Meridian, ID; Madison, WI; Plover, WI; or Minneapolis, MN
## About This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a Senior Packaging & Material Handling Systems Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of packaging and material handling systems for industrial facilities. This role is ideal for an engineer who has a solid technical foundation and is ready to take ownership of project tasks while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
## What You'll Do
You'll support the design and development of packaging and material handling systems, including evaluation of existing client configurations, equipment layouts, conveyor configurations, and operational efficiency design. Your work will involve leveraging new technologies in automation and manufacturing philosophies to deliver innovative solutions for clients in food & beverage, consumer products, and advanced manufacturing.
A significant part of your role includes developing and reviewing physical building layout drawings, equipment and system drawings, PFDs, P&IDs, and bid and construction packages. You'll assist with equipment specifications, RFPs, mass balances, and technical calculations, while also creating, coordinating, and reviewing CAD deliverables to ensure alignment with WSP and client standards.
Vendor coordination and equipment selection activities will be ongoing responsibilities, with close collaboration between yourself and project managers and senior engineers to deliver work within budget and schedule. You'll participate actively in design coordination meetings and contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration across projects. Site visits for data collection, field verification, and construction support are part of the role, along with effective communication with internal team members and clients as appropriate.
## What We're Looking For
You'll need a Bachelor's degree in Applied Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. The position requires 3-5 years of relevant experience in material handling design, packaging systems, industrial facility design, and automation.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients and project stakeholders are essential. You must have working knowledge of AutoCAD (2D/3D) with experience reviewing and visualizing designs in a 3D environment, plus the ability to interpret and work with scan data and point cloud files.
You should bring an understanding of operations in hygienic packaging production (food, beverage, or consumer products) and industrial manufacturing operations. Strong mechanical reasoning and problem-solving skills are critical, as is the ability to work effectively in team-based, consulting environments. A willingness to travel approximately 10–25% is required.
## Preferred Background
A Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering degree is preferred, with consideration given to years of applicable experience. Consulting experience in industrial or facilities engineering, exposure to automation, industrial material handling, packaging equipment, conveying systems, automated guided vehicles or similar transport vehicles, and familiarity with vendor coordination and construction-phase support are all valued. Experience with multidisciplinary project delivery in a consulting environment and strong written and verbal communication skills with developing client-facing experience are advantageous.
## Compensation and Benefits
The expected salary for all locations is $75,600 - $108,130, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
