Summary
You will serve as a Materials Handler at NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR SAN DIEGO.
Duties
The role involves handling or overseeing one or more product lines within a large warehouse or serving as a senior employee in a small warehouse; independently performing a full range of storage, re‑warehousing, and consolidation assignments including placing, arranging, rotating, marking, and tagging items on pallets, bins, shelves, bulk, and other storage locations for all assigned product lines; using computer terminals and automated material scanner identification equipment to move, issue, receipt, retrieve data; laying out storage space to maximize utilization; and caring for supplies in storage. Responsibilities also include performing material inventories, location audits, and documentation reviews, locating material to staging areas, obtaining signatures on paperwork prior to issue/shipping, handling tools and equipment safely, using safety practices and complying with hazardous material regulations, investigating customer complaints and deficiency reports, and operating electric, propane gas, utility vehicles, electromechanical automated equipment, or diesel‑powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads of less than 15,000 pounds to facilitate loading, unloading, and movement of materials. The position is performed independently with general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations. Screening will include a minimum of two points on the screen‑out elements. The specific screen‑out element for this position is the ability to perform the full range of the tasks described above. Experience is evaluated based on the level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies in the job elements; length of experience is not a primary factor. Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work through National Service programs.
