The Trojanowska Laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support ongoing research projects and perform routine laboratory procedures. The Trojanowska Laboratory explores mechanisms of fibrosis and vascular disease in patients with scleroderma using various experimental systems, including cell culture and mouse models. The lab technician will manage the daily operations of the lab. The lab technician will independently design and conduct a variety of routine and specialized experiments in support of research studies. The lab technician will lead and participate in experimental design of research projects, analysis and interpretation of data. The lab technician will serve as a laboratory safety officer to insure safe work practice in accordance with the EH&S guidelines. The duties will include updating regulatory documents (IACUC, IBC, BioRaft), ordering necessary supplies and reagents, monitoring mouse strains, assisting with or troubleshooting research protocols, and servicing instruments/equipment to ensure a safe, compliant research environment. Responsibilities

  • Maintain laboratory compliance with safety regulations
  • Assist scientists with research experiments and data collection
  • Perform standard laboratory techniques, including genotyping, cell culture, quantitative PCR (qPCR), and western blotting
  • Manage a BSL2 laboratory
  • Maintain laboratory equipment performance by developing troubleshooting procedures
  • Certify instrument performance, arrange for replacement, service, or repair
  • Ensure staff compliance (EHS training, ROHP clearance)
  • Maintain laboratory supply inventory, submitting orders
  • Train new lab personnel
  • Handle and dispose bio-specimens and hazardous chemicals
  • Track and update mouse inventory
  • Prepare renewals and amendments to IACUC and IBC applications
  • Maintain safe working conditions (updating SDS inventory, draining eye wash stations)
  • Liaise with EHS to resolve any inspection findings
  • Report emergency maintenance to facilities
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Veterinary Science, or a related field
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to complete tasks accurately
  • Experience working independently and in a collaborative team
  • Willingness and ability to work with mice
  • Prior experience in a research laboratory preferred, but not required
  • Familiarity with various software programs (Microsoft office, GraphPad, ImageJ)
  • Leadership and problem solving skills

Required Skills

Candidate must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as attention to details. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated MS preferred or BS in related field with 1-3 years of experience.
