Summary of Job Duties: This posting will fill multiple positions.
The Pharmacy Technician IV will work under the supervision of the pharmacist to provide excellent customer service to patients receiving specialty medications. This technician will be responsible for the management of the dispensing functions for specialty medications and monthly outreach calls to assess the need for refills on medications and check on the overall wellbeing of the assigned patients. The Pharmacy Technician IV will also be responsible for managing prior authorizations and financial assistance for assigned specialty patients as well as serve as a role model and assist in the training of staff. All clinical issues will be referred to the pharmacist.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED plus 4 years relevant pharmacy technician experience OR Undergraduate degree and relevant pharmacy technician experience
- Licensed pharmacy technician by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy
- 1 year to obtain ASHP/ACPE Accredited Technician Training or certificate program (such as Advanced Certified)
- PTCB National Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
- 2+ years of UAMS Pharmacy experience
Responsibilities
- Monitors prior authorizations for timely submission and processing as outlined in the policies and procedures.
- Ability to identify pertinent literature for appeals and help/teach others this process.
- Possesses a good understanding of all disease states. Ensures outstanding prior authorizations are monitored daily.
- Audit documentation for presence and accuracy.
- Monitors outstanding financial assistance to streamline timely patient access.
- Promotes continuous patient communication throughout the patient journey.
- Refers all clinical issues to the pharmacist, always working within the pharmacy technician’s scope of practice.
- Participates in the training of staff.
- Works in any disease state as needed.
- Monitors the ACD and addresses gaps.
- Uses appropriate walk-away codes.
- Reports all gaps to the Assistant Director of Pharmacy.
- Possesses advanced knowledge of the adjudication process and mitigates billing problems as they arise.
- Assists others with adjudication issues and can teach the adjudication process.
- Audits each specialty prescription for accuracy to ensure proper billing.
- Ensures prescription processing is promptly done with a focus on patient safety and clean claims.
- Assists others once work is completed every day.
- Ensures that prescriptions are accurately filled and all necessary information is in the work basket, including payment.
- Works to enhance the workflow. Is responsible for improving documentation to enhance patient safety and outcomes.
- Models professional communication with patients, providers, payers, and PBMs.
- Reports all gaps to the Assistant Director of Pharmacy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
