• 1st Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
• 2nd Shift: Monday–Thursday, 2:00 PM – 12:30 AM (4/10 Schedule)

CNC Setup Machinist

ABC Sheet Metal is hiring an experienced CNC Setup Machinist with strong Haas milling experience. This position is responsible for setting up and operating Haas 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills, performing first article inspections, making basic G-code edits, troubleshooting machining issues, and supporting production in a fast-paced precision manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate has job shop experience machining precision components, tooling, fixtures, sheet metal parts, welded assemblies, and aerospace-related components. Experience with Mastercam, GD&T, custom fixturing, and in-process inspection is highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate Haas 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines.
• Perform complete machine setups including tooling, fixtures, workholding, offsets, and first article inspections.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
• Make basic G-code edits and machine-side program adjustments.
• Review and troubleshoot Mastercam-generated programs.
• Perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
• Build, modify, and maintain custom fixtures, soft jaws, and workholding solutions.
• Troubleshoot dimensional issues, tooling concerns, setup problems, and surface finish requirements.
• Adjust speeds, feeds, tooling, and offsets to maintain quality and productivity.
• Operate conventional/manual equipment including Bridgeport mills, drill presses, band saws, and other shop equipment.
• Work closely with programming, quality, engineering, and production teams to improve setup efficiency and part quality.
• Maintain a safe and organized work area.

Qualifications

Required

• 6+ years of CNC setup and machining experience.
• Experience setting up and operating Haas CNC mills.
• Experience with both 3-axis and 5-axis machining.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T.
• Ability to make basic G-code edits and offset adjustments.
• Mastercam experience or ability to review Mastercam-generated programs.
• Experience using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
• Experience with custom fixturing, soft jaws, workholding, and setup tooling.
• Job shop machining experience.
• Experience with manual equipment such as Bridgeport mills, drill presses, and band saws.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.

Preferred

• Aerospace manufacturing experience.
• Lathe setup and operation experience.
• Haas UMC-Series 5-axis experience.
• Haas probing and/or Renishaw probing experience.
• AS9100 or ISO 9001 manufacturing experience.
• Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and aerospace materials.
