Lead the Metal Shop team in fabrication and assembly of custom Switchgear structures of varying size and scope to meet client and product specs and prepare the same for shipment. This position will involve both supervisory duties in addition to fulfilment of daily technician responsibilities. The incumbent in this position will have a good understanding of machinery safety and be able to appropriately use hand and small power tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and drills as required. An essential function is the ability to read and understand blueprints. Some (infrequent) travel may be required for install/service projects.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

The following list of responsibilities is not all inclusive, additional projects and/or tasks may be assigned to meet operational needs. MCG retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position should operational needs warrant

Lead metal shop technicians in operations and safety by personal example and providing training and direction.

Provide direction to the metal shop technicians in concurrence with established policies and best practices of the company.

Monitor team member performance; coach and counsel per company policies.

Direct, supervise, instruct, and inspect the individual performance of the metal shop team members. Ensure production quality standards are met.

Support the Metal Shop Manager in oversight of metal shop operations, ensuring efficiency, productivity and completion of goals/deadlines.

Provide input on team member performance evaluations.

Participate in and successfully complete training required by Senior Management, including but not limited to, operational, safety, and supervisory training(s).

Provide coverage for the Metal Shop Manager in times of absence and overtime scheduling.

Conduct safety briefings with the metal shop team, ensure all company safety policies are followed.

Ensure security of the facility at site closure or open facility, as required.

Primary Metal Shop Technician Duties:

Operate metal shop machinery, including punch, brake, shear and saws.

Weld sheet metal goods and prep for coating.

Assemble metalwork and handle sheet metal goods, raw steel and copper.

Read, interpret and follow blueprint diagrams.

Be proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools.

Execute metal fabrication duties, including saw cutting and drilling.

May be required to cross train in other skills, to support other departments of the Company.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Experience:

Ability to read blueprints.

Minimum 4-5 years in general mechanical or metal working or associated field.

Experience in the use of hand tools and hand power tools.

Valid driver’s license.

Satisfactory completion of additional background screening.

Follow verbal directions to meet production schedule.

Ability to use ruler, scale, tape measure, calipers

Possess and have proficiency in the use of basic tools including gear wrenches, impact gun, torque wrenches, metric & standard sockets.

Detail-oriented, with a high dedication to quality standards to avoid rework.

Ability to work under pressure/time constraints.

Able to work with minimal direction and achieve department objectives.

Preferred:

Welding certification.

Forklift experience and/or certification.

Carpentry skills.
