The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the daily accounting operations of a hospital or health system, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls. This role partners closely with revenue cycle, patient financial services, and operational leadership to support financial performance and organizational goals. The ideal candidate will have experience in hospital accounting, third-party reimbursements, and healthcare financial reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Manage general ledger activity, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
- Supervise and develop accounting staff, providing leadership, training, and performance management.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, healthcare regulations, and organizational policies.
- Collaborate with revenue cycle and patient financial services teams to monitor net patient revenue, contractual allowances, and reimbursement trends.
- Support the preparation of Medicare and Medicaid cost reports and other regulatory filings.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, including financial statement audits and regulatory reviews.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support hospital leadership decision-making.
- Strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
- Partner with department leaders across clinical and administrative functions to support financial initiatives.
- Support system implementations, upgrades, and financial reporting tools as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with hospital or health system experience strongly preferred.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and healthcare financial reporting.
- Understanding of hospital reimbursement methodologies, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payors.
- Experience with hospital financial systems and ERP platforms.
- Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Medicare cost reports or regulatory reporting.
- Familiarity with healthcare compliance and audit requirements.
- Experience working in a multi-entity or consolidated health system environment.

- Salary range: $100,000 – $125,000 (based on experience)
