A growing precision machining operation in the Greater Philadelphia area is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer/Machinist to join its day-shift team. This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable working in a true job shop environment, handling custom parts, tight tolerances, frequent setups, and a wide variety of machining work.

The ideal candidate will have strong CAM programming ability, excellent blueprint reading skills, and the confidence to independently set up, program, troubleshoot, and run precision CNC mill work from start to finish.

What You’ll Do:

  • Review work orders, prints, materials, specifications, tolerances, and machining requirements before beginning each job
  • Create, edit, and prove CNC programs using CAM software and on-machine adjustments as needed
  • Set up CNC mills, including tooling, offsets, fixturing, vises, chucks, collets, and related attachments
  • Machine custom, low-volume, high-mix parts for a variety of applications and customers
  • Verify first-run parts and in-process work using precision measuring tools
  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T, manufacturing travelers, and quality requirements
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, adjust programs, replace tooling, and make process improvements as needed
  • Design or modify fixtures to support accurate and efficient machining
  • Complete production documentation, quality checks, and required sign-offs
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Support preventive maintenance and communicate equipment or process issues promptly

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on CNC machining experience in a precision job shop environment
  • Strong experience with CNC mill setup, programming, troubleshooting, and operation
  • Advanced CAM programming skills; specific CAM software is flexible
  • Ability to work with custom parts, frequent changeovers, and tight tolerances
  • Excellent blueprint reading and measurement skills
  • Strong understanding of offsets, tooling, fixturing, speeds/feeds, and machining strategy
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of jobs from setup through completion
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and shop housekeeping
  • Willingness to work overtime when needed

Best-Fit Backgrounds:

This role is best suited for candidates coming from environments such as:

  • Precision CNC job shops
  • Contract machine shops
  • Toolroom machining
  • Aerospace, medical device, mold/die, or other tight-tolerance machining environments

Not the Right Fit For:

This role is likely not a match for candidates whose background is primarily:

  • High-volume or repetitive production machining
  • Running the same parts repeatedly with limited setup changes
  • Programming-only work without strong hands-on setup and machining experience
  • Manufacturing only internal company products in a stable production environment
