Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification for Visually Impaired (VI) in California
  • Additional Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist certification a plus
  • Experience or certification as a braille transcriber highly valued
  • Strong understanding of adapting curriculum and materials for students with visual impairments
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including school staff and families
  • Knowledge of Braille and accessible educational technologies

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction tailored to students’ individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Develop and adapt instructional materials to meet visual needs, ensuring accessibility
  • Provide direct support and strategies for orientation and mobility training, if qualified
  • Consult and collaborate with general education teachers on inclusion strategies
  • Monitor and document student progress for reporting and IEP meetings
  • Create Braille and other tactile materials or coordinate with braille transcribers
