Job Summary

Reporting to and under general supervision of the Facilities Engineering Manager - Infrastructure and Projects, with additional lead work direction provided from other members of the Facilities Management team, and the Supervising Building Service Engineer, the Building Service Engineer (BSE) performs maintenance and repair work on a range of heating, ventilating, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, air conditioning, and water systems needed in support of daily operations and special events at Sonoma State University.

The incumbent ensures all heat, ventilation and air conditioning, fire notification, emergency and elevator systems are fully operational; and meet all applicable code requirements.

The BSE provides a safe, fully functioning environment in a fiscally responsible manner for the university.

Key Qualifications

This position requires two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment systems or the equivalent combination of formal course work in mechanical / electrical controls technology with hands-on experience.

On-site engineer for performances and events with the ability to work in a performing arts setting with a diverse variety of performers, campus departments, and their requests is preferred.

Beginning proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required.

Knowledge of Google Suite, computerized work control system, building control systems and PeopleSoft preferred.

The incumbent must successfully complete a pre-placement exam and must possess and/or obtain and thereafter maintain a California Driver's License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required to maintain and operate.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full time, non-exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.

The CSU Classification Step Range for this position is $5,998 - $8,737 per month (step 1 - step 20).

Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience.

Step placement upon appointment is not expected to exceed Step 5 ($6,492 a month).

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave.

In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year.
