Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant with strong real estate accounting experience to support a growing portfolio of commercial and residential assets. This role will be responsible for property-level financial reporting, general ledger oversight, and ensuring accurate, timely accounting across multiple entities.
The ideal candidate understands the operational realities of property management and how financial performance directly impacts NOI, asset valuation, and ownership returns.
Core Responsibilities
Property-Level Accounting & Reporting
•
Prepare and review monthly financial statements for a portfolio of commercial and residential properties
•
Perform detailed variance analysis against budget and prior periods
•
Maintain accurate property-level general ledgers
•
Record and reconcile rent rolls, concessions, CAM reconciliations, and tenant recoveries
•
Ensure proper revenue recognition and expense allocation by property and entity
Month-End Close & Reconciliations
•
Prepare journal entries, accruals, and reclasses
•
Complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations across multiple entities
•
Review and reconcile intercompany transactions
•
Assist with monthly close timelines and reporting packages
Commercial & Residential Specific Functions
•
Process and reconcile CAM (Common Area Maintenance) charges and annual true-ups
•
Track TI (Tenant Improvement) and leasing commissions amortization
•
Support construction draw tracking and development accounting
•
Monitor utility reimbursements, RUBS allocations, and tenant bill-backs
•
Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation by property
Budgeting & Financial Analysis
•
Assist with annual property budgets and reforecasts
•
Support ownership reporting and lender reporting requirements
•
Partner with property managers and asset management to analyze expense trends
•
Ensure expenses align with approved budgets and contracts
Compliance & Audit
•
Assist with year-end audit support
•
Ensure GAAP compliance and adherence to internal accounting controls
•
Maintain organized documentation for property transactions and vendor contracts
Qualifications
•
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
•
4+ years of accounting experience, with direct real estate portfolio exposure preferred
•
Experience with property management accounting platforms (AppFolio, RealPage, Yardi, MRI, etc.)
•
Strong understanding of:
Property-level P&Ls, CAM reconciliations, Multi-entity accounting structures, Accrual-based accounting
•
Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, financial analysis, modeling)
•
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple properties simultaneously
