Primary Services is actively recruiting for a Power Market Accountant (PJM/ERCOT) on behalf of a large and well-established client in the energy industry. This position supports critical accounting and financial operations within a retail power business, with responsibilities spanning financial reporting, billing support, treasury activities, audit coordination, and process optimization. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, advanced analytical capabilities, and experience working with high-volume financial data.
Responsibilities
- Perform monthly accounting activities, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Manage accounting processes related to retail power contracts, usage-based revenue recognition, and market settlements.
- Collaborate with operations and credit teams to monitor customer payments and support timely financial reporting.
- Support treasury activities, including cash management coordination and bank reconciliations.
- Assist with billing operations and data processing within the retail electricity business.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, including balance sheet, profit and loss, and cash flow reporting.
- Develop shareholder reporting and support management reporting requirements.
- Conduct budget-to-actual variance analysis and contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Support internal control assessments and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and data flows.
- Utilize emerging technologies and automation tools to enhance workflow efficiency and reporting accuracy.
- Coordinate internal and external audit requests and provide required documentation.
- Communicate with auditors, tax advisors, vendors, project partners, and other stakeholders to support accounting activities.
- Perform additional accounting and financial analysis duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.
- More than 2 years of professional accounting or accounting-related experience required.
- Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, Power Query, and data modeling.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Experience working with high-volume transactional data and complex reconciliations.
- Knowledge of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and treasury functions.
- Experience with NetSuite required or strongly preferred.
- Experience with Allegro and retail power billing systems preferred.
- Understanding of retail power markets and electricity billing preferred.
- Experience with ISO settlements, particularly PJM and ERCOT, preferred.
- Ability to interpret contracts, invoices, and business documentation.
- Fluent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Experience utilizing AI-assisted analytics tools or process automation technologies preferred.
