Special Education Teacher – Frostig School West - Los Angeles Campus

History : Dr. Marianne Frostig established Frostig over 60 years ago. Frostig School is a non-public school offering a full range of academic, elective, and support services for children in grades 1-12 who have been diagnosed with learning differences. With locations in Pasadena and West Los Angeles, Frostig provides personalized learning, multi-disciplinary programs, leading research, and professional development designed to help students become thriving members of society. Through our training programs, consultation services, and professional publications, as well as our school, summer school, and summer workshops, we have been able to share our expertise with people all over the world. Our staff finds this to be a warm and enriching work environment utilizing an interdisciplinary team approach.

SUMMARY:

Each teacher has a caseload of no more than 12 students with a full-time aide or co-teacher in each class. Curriculum is adapted and is based on the Common Core Standards. Teachers in the academic program have planning for two periods during the day in addition to a 30 minute lunch period. Teachers are expected to be on site from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. although accommodations can be made for individuals who are attending university classes in the afternoons and evenings.

Frostig teachers collaborate as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Team meetings are held regularly to ensure the individual needs of the students are being met. Teachers are also expected to establish a positive, working relationship with the family of each student and to maintain open lines of effective communication with them throughout the year.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING):

1. Creates individual goals for each student

2. Ensure students are working towards individualized goals

3. Write progress reports for each student based on individual goals

4. Differentiate assignments and instruction to accommodate student learning needs

5. Maintain pertinent records including daily lesson plans and attendance

6. Submit weekly progress reports to parents

7. Verify monthly attendance records

8. Attend and participate in trainings and workshops as scheduled by school administration

9. Attend parent conferences

10. Participate in other school events and activities

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS):

Bachelor’s Degree required

1-5 Years of Experience

Mild to Moderate Special Education Credential and Autism Authorization preferred

Previous experience working with students with learning differences is preferred
