Cook / Prep Cook – Imagination Station Early Learning Center
We are looking for a reliable, team-oriented Cook or Prep Cook to join our kitchen team at Imagination Station Early Learning Center. This role is essential in supporting the health and nutrition of the children in our care through high-quality meal preparation that meets CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) standards.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys cooking, working in a structured environment, and being part of a supportive team—no late nights or weekend shifts (except occasional trainings).
Responsibilities
- Prepare and assist with meals and snacks according to recipes, portion sizes, and CACFP guidelines
- Follow direction from the Kitchen Manager/Chef and/or assist in supervising kitchen workflow
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, including dishwashing and food prep areas
- Ensure all food is handled, stored, and prepared in compliance with state, municipal, and CACFP food safety regulations
- Work collaboratively with kitchen and classroom staff to ensure smooth daily operations
- Assist with menu planning, food allergies, and dietary accommodations
- Help manage inventory, stock rotation (FIFO), and supply ordering
- Maintain accurate food production and CACFP documentation as required
- Support classroom integration when appropriate (e.g., food-related activities with children)
- Follow all licensing requirements for childcare facilities, including sanitation and supervision standards
- Complete required CACFP and Municipality of Anchorage trainings
Qualifications
- Previous kitchen, food service, or prep experience preferred (not required—we will train the right person)
- Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and multitask
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
- Food Worker Card and/or ServSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Must pass a federal background check and reference check (required for childcare licensing)
- Must be comfortable working in a childcare environment and interacting with children
Preferred (but not required)
- Experience with CACFP meal programs
- Experience working in a school, daycare, or institutional kitchen
- Experience managing food allergies or special diets
