Art with a Heart is seeking an energetic, creative, and enthusiastic contractual lead teacher & assistant team, or two co-teachers to lead Visual Arts Classes at a challenging school program in Baltimore for the 2026/27 School Year. Candidates MUST be available to commit for the entire school year from August 18th, 2026 - June 11th, 2027.

Art with a Heart provides training, paid professional development once a month, all curriculum and art supplies, classroom support, and coaching to all teachers and assistants.

Description of organization : Art with a Heart is a non-profit organization that provides interactive visual arts classes to underserved Baltimore area children, youth and adults in schools, community centers, group homes, shelters, permanent housing facilities, hospitals, senior facilities, and more.

Art with a Heart’s mission is to enhance the lives of people in need through visual art. In an effort to achieve its mission, Art with a Heart works to harness the benefits of arts education to cultivate positive changes in behavior and general attitudes among its participants.

Founded in 2000, Art with a Heart has experienced steady growth, from four small classes a week to 16,000 classes annually with a proven track record for developing creative initiatives and accessible paths to success for individuals living in Baltimore’s most vulnerable communities.

Essential Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • MUST have at least 2 years of Visual Art classroom teaching experience in a school setting.
  • MUST have incredible classroom and behavior management to effectively provide services in a very challenging school; establish classroom protocols and expectations, and integrate with the overall school culture.
  • Be flexible and adaptable — meet students where they are to help them through their challenges, and navigate last minute changes to schedules and class sizes when needed.
  • Work with classes of elementary and middle-school students ranging from Pre-K- 8th grade by planning interactive, hands-on visual art classes 5 days a week (Monday-Friday).
  • Plan and facilitate and/or assist art instruction by using the Art with a Heart curriculum.
  • Develop monthly lesson plan outlines using the Art with a Heart curriculum, and submit supply orders with your outline by the due date every month.
  • Provide grades for student's work/report cards by quarter as necessary.
  • Attend Art with a Heart's paid monthly professional development workshops.
  • Arrive on time for scheduled classes and ready to work.
  • Be culturally sensitive, compassionate, and able to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Motivate, encourage, and assist students in the process of creating art.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: Assistants make $20.00 per hour; Co-teachers make $30.00 per hour; Lead Teachers make $40.00 per hour
