Must Haves:
- 7–10+ years of experience in payroll accounting, financial accounting, or related field
- Strong expertise in month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Experience performing flux/variance analysis and communicating results to leadership
- Proven ability to manage multiple teams or complex organizational structures
- Strong understanding of how payroll interacts with accounting and tax functions
Preferred:
- CPA certification
- Experience with BlackLine
- Exposure to SOX compliance and audit processes
- Experience working with ADP and/or Workday environments
Senior Payroll Accounting Manager
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Payroll Accounting Manager to oversee payroll accounting operations, including reconciliation, month-end close, and financial reporting. This role will manage multiple teams across payroll accounting and tax coordination, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance in a highly complex environment.
This position is ideal for a strong accounting leader who can navigate complexity, explain financial variances clearly, and drive discipline across payroll-related financial processes.Key Responsibilities
- Oversee payroll accounting close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting
- Lead the month-end close process for payroll-related accounts, ensuring completeness and accuracy
- Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Perform and oversee flux/variance analysis, providing clear explanations for financial changes
- Manage and develop a team of ~10 across payroll accounting and tax support functions
- Partner closely with payroll operations, tax teams, and external vendors (e.g., ADP)
- Ensure proper handling of garnishments, wage payments, and payroll-related liabilities
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, with exposure to SOX and audit readiness
- Support process improvements and system optimization initiatives (including automation tools)
Qualifications
Required:
- 7–10+ years of experience in payroll accounting, financial accounting, or related field
