We are looking to recruit a qualified Welding Coordinator / Welding Engineer to support our steel tube manufacturing and structural steel fabrication activities in the USA.
Main Responsibilities
- Coordinate all welding-related activities within the production facility.
- Prepare, review and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications — WPS.
- Support Procedure Qualification Records — PQR — and Welder Performance Qualifications — WPQ.
- Ensure welding operations are compliant with applicable AWS standards, mainly AWS D1.1 for structural steel.
- Support the selection and validation of welding consumables, including solid wire, metal-cored wire and flux-cored wire.
- Work closely with production supervisors to improve welding productivity, quality and process stability.
- Provide technical support to welders and production teams during fabrication.
- Monitor welding parameters, heat input, preheat requirements and interpass temperature where applicable.
- Support inspection activities, non-conformance analysis and corrective actions.
- Ensure proper traceability and control of welding documentation.
- Assist with training and qualification of welders.
- Support audits from customers, certification bodies or internal quality teams.
- Promote safe welding practices and compliance with company safety procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes used in steel fabrication, such as GMAW, FCAW, MCAW and SMAW.
- Good understanding of AWS welding codes and standards, especially AWS D1.1.
- Experience with WPS, PQR and WPQ preparation and control.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols and technical specifications.
- Practical knowledge of steel fabrication, preferably in structural steel or tube manufacturing.
- Strong shop-floor orientation and ability to work directly with production teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector — CWI.
- AWS Certified Welding Engineer — CWEng, or equivalent welding engineering certification.
- International Welding Engineer — IWE — or equivalent qualification would also be considered valuable.
- Experience with robotic, semi-automatic or high-productivity welding processes.
- Knowledge of welding productivity, distortion control, weld defects and root-cause analysis.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment in the USA.
