Property Accountant

Position Overview

An Entry-Level Property Accountant supports the accounting team in managing the financial operations of a portfolio of real estate properties. This role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with monthly reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and property management requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly close processes, including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts for assigned properties
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements for individual properties
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable, including tenant billing and rent tracking
  • Maintain and update the general ledger to ensure accurate financial data
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities for property portfolios
  • Analyze financial data and investigate variances or discrepancies
  • Prepare documentation for audits and tax filings
  • Ensure timely payments of expenses such as mortgages, taxes, and vendor invoices
  • Work closely with property managers and operations teams to resolve financial issues

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 0–2 years of accounting experience (internship or entry-level acceptable)
  • Basic understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
  • Strong Excel skills and familiarity with accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, RealPage is a plus)
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of property management or real estate accounting
  • Ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
