Job Summary
The Director of Quality Control leads the organization’s quality control program with strategic oversight, ensuring all construction projects meet or exceed contractual, regulatory, and company standards. This position plays a pivotal role in maintaining the organization’s reputation for excellence through robust quality management systems, process standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Director of Quality Control partners closely with project management, field operations, and executive leadership to drive consistency, reduce rework, and ensure delivery of superior results across all project types, including federal and healthcare construction.
Responsibilities Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s Quality Control Program and procedures to ensure alignment with corporate goals and client expectations. Establish and maintain quality assurance standards in accordance with contract documents, applicable codes, and industry best practices (e.g., USACE CQM, ISO 9001). Lead quality planning and documentation for federal projects, including QC Plans, Submittal Logs, Deficiency Logs, and Three-Phase Control process documentation.
Oversee pre-construction reviews, material inspections, testing programs, and system commissioning verification. Conduct regular field audits, inspections, and quality assessments to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement. Develop and deliver training programs for project teams and subcontractors to ensure quality expectations and procedures are clearly understood and executed. Serve as the primary point of contact for all quality-related issues on federal and healthcare projects, coordinating with clients, third-party inspectors, and regulatory agencies. Collaborate with Safety, Operations, and Project Management to ensure that quality, schedule, and safety standards are integrated seamlessly. Analyze and report on quality performance metrics, including nonconformance rates, rework costs, and inspection results. Lead root cause analyses and corrective action initiatives for recurring deficiencies. Implement and maintain quality control software systems for documentation, reporting, and data-driven decision-making. Represent the company during client quality meetings, federal quality inspections, and project turnover processes. Provide executive leadership with comprehensive quality performance reports and strategic improvement recommendations. Provide mentorship and career coaching to direct reports in support of the Richard Career Pathways. Develop and deliver quality control management orientation and training to support the development of future Quality Control Managers and field staff. Provide support to operations teams through bid response enhancements detailing understanding of project requirements. Review and approve project specific QA/QC plans for federal and non-federal contractors.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 15 years of progressive quality control experience in the construction industry. Has managed and provided leadership to a team of 15 or more quality control professionals. CQM-C (USACE/NAVFAC Construction Quality Management for Contractors) certification. Pro…
