SECONDARY
PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH TEACHER
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a valid Michigan teaching certificate in Physical Education and Health
(preferred) - (MC or MX) endorsement.
- Fulfill the qualifications to be Highly Qualified under NCLB (passing MTTC test scores).
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and community.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership that results in collaborative working relationships and
student achievement gains.
Responsibilities:
- Create a welcoming and positive classroom climate and culture
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide effective physical
education instruction
- Develop classroom experiences based on the K-12 Michigan Physical Education Standards
- Identify and implement best practices in instruction and student achievement
- Demonstrate and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, and
fundamentals of body movement that promote physical activity to students
- Instruct proper exercise techniques and proper eating habits to students
- Support students in their individual development
- Maintain professional growth through professional development
- Communicate with parents, counselors, and/or administration on the individual progress of
students
- Execute other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator
