About the role
The Indirect Tax Manager will join our growing team of tax professionals located at our HQ in San Jose, CA. The Indirect Tax Manager will be contributing to all areas of indirect tax, including compliance and planning. The individual will report to the Head of Tax/Sr. Tax Director. We are seeking a colleague who enjoys working collaboratively in a collegial team environment within a fast-paced growing company. The Indirect Tax Manager will be a qualified tax professional with solid experience in worldwide indirect tax compliance, working knowledge and experience with digital services and supply chain logistics, and strong accounting/tax expertise. This role requires comfort working with large datasets and high transaction volumes, leveraging strong analytical capabilities to extract meaningful insights from complex data. This role will require a person who is proactive and enjoys learning and new challenges. This role will be an active participant in planning that is closely integrated with income tax, in order to support the business from a holistic tax perspective. In this position you’ll serve as a key member of our finance team and will have opportunities to contribute to shareholder value by assisting with the growth of the Company’s international expansion. For California Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $145 ,000 and 160 , 00 0 annually. Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location. What you’ll be doing
Indirect Tax Return Compliance – Collaborate and work with the team to manage the accurate reporting of the Roku and Roku foreign subsidiary indirect tax returns for VAT/GST, etc. Consider technology and process improvements to improve overall compliance processes
Planning Activities – Support the business and contribute to the implementation of tax planning strategies, which maximize savings on a defensible basis. Conduct tax research. Actively participate in the review of proposed transactions to properly advise management of tax consequences. Support the indirect tax integration of business acquisitions, dispositions and restructurings
Additional Activities include:
Provide support, as needed, to the US sales tax and GST/VAT processes, as well as other indirect taxes and business taxes as needed
Provide technical tax advice and planning services to a portfolio of projects
Build strong working relationships with our internal project teams, developing your understanding of their unique needs and requirements
Develop your own knowledge, maintaining your status as a trusted advisor by monitoring emerging trends, technologies and practices
Tax Audits and Controversies – Evaluate and respond to requests for information from government tax authorities and participate in developing strategies to successfully defend tax filing positions. Support the coordination and implementation of audit strategies. Stay abreast of legal developments and industry positions in order to accurately evaluate options and responses to requests for information.
We’re excited if you have
BS/BA in Accounting or Tax
CPA, MBA or an advanced degree with an emphasis in taxation a plus
Minimum of 5-6 years of directly related tax experience, either Big 4 accounting firm or industry or both
Proficiency in tax preparation and research tools (Avalara or equivalent, CCH or RIA)
Broad technical knowledge of US and international indirect tax laws and regulations
Strong accounting skills including intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and experience with statutory local accounting
Experience with digital services as well as tangible goods and supply chain logistics
